New post as of 2 hrs ago:

"The webmaster is also moving the below domains to other servers, which are supposed to be back online in about 36/48 hours:

forumup.at
forumup.ca
forumup.ch
forumup.com.br
forumup.co.za
forumup.cz
forumup.es
forumup.fr
forumup.gr
forumup.hu
forumup.in
forumup.info
forumup.jobs
forumup.lt
forumup.lv
forumup.name
forumup.net
forumup.ro
forumup.ru
forumup.se
forumup.sk
forumup.tv
forumup.web.tr
forumup.us
forumup.com.au
forumup.vn "

Wonderful. Great....

I just found out this move has been going on since the 28th of Feb, and some domains have been down since then.

So, another 36-48 hours supposedly. Awesome.

I suppose it could be worse - some of these forums have as many as 10000 members who are paying about $20 per member per year so they can mantain an ad-free space. Lawsuits are already starting apparently. Yikes!

Hey SB--as opposed to Rich, I think this is fascinating; do I inderstand that this is another website/blogspace/dead site that you and S&R (and others) frequent? But, that unlike, say, Deadhook, you all chipped in to avoid it going the "ad route"? IE, during the great recession that seemed to impact dead sites as much as the rest of the "real" world?

That is really cool, and, I would be royally pissed as well if I'd been posting crap and had this sort of thing happen. I'd love to hear more--it convinces me that I should really appreciate the Forum, and that I shud probably start taking my role here more seriously (though I have no idea what behavioral changes might be req'd if I do...).

Hey William -

We dont actually pay to keep ads out - but we could. A lot of people dont realize just how big the forum buisness is. It's a multi billion dollar buisness a year. It's used quite a bit by buisness too. So, let's say I hosted a networking seminar that people were going to pay for, and I had 8000 paying members - you can see how fast shit spins outta control when the servers go down.

The longer this goes on(as of 8 a.m. ET Wed 6th it still is)the more it concerns me. These backups should not take this long. Add the fact that they are not being forthcoming at all about what is going on doesnt really help either. Buisnesses move their data from one cloud to another all the time without interupption.

We honestly have around 15 or 20 people who contribute on a regular basis and have since we started about 3 years ago. We have ammassed quite the body of work with contributions from a bunch of others too. The Review Club, especially, is what I am most concerned about. We have reviewed several hundred shows and in some cases as many as 10 or fifteen per show - shit adds up quick. I always talked about saving those reviews in an alternate spot besides the forum - but never did. Hopefully we get them all back and that will be that.

The funny thing is William, that stuff is incredibly valuable to me. Just the sheer quantity of time alone invested into these reviews is pretty mind boggling. Needless to say - once this mess is straightened out I'm going to back up all the stuff and start considering hosting our own thing. Forumup has proven themselves as garbage, and if the transition is not too bad Im gonna dump them for a new host.

To actually answer your question, Transitive Axis is the name of our forum and we have several members who frequent here as well. We have the option to pay quarterly to get rid of all advertising, but we do not. We just keep it free and deal with all the BS. Using Firfox with adblock makes it not so bad.

Dude, keep your fingers crossed for me please. I really dont want to loose three years worth of work just like that.

Thx; yup, I would hope that ea individual saved his/her contribution...? These days, just txt is easy, as in compared to music files, you could save all sorts of crap as word/pdf docs, etc., without using much space. But, that's not having it all in one repository, nor accessible.

When I first came here I copied and saved all sorts of stuff that I read (by others), but over the yrs I lost it...I actually do have a print out of all the 4-5 star shows from 68-71, though!? In case the LMA ever goes under they can contact me...

Good luck w it.

If I write anything of any length, I always save a copy to my hard drive. Learned to do that after LSP self-immolated and its moderator reappeared here as a totally different person.

Yikes. I would not want to be an investor or owner of this company. I wonder if it was sabotage by a disgruntled employee.

We are now entering day 5. I do believe I am suffering from withdrawal. I should have changed avatars at least three times by now. I never actually realized how much faster TA makes my workday go by.

I have officially irritated one of the mods at support so now I'm just gonna wait it out. I put in a third ticket on the same issue asking for further info and the Scottish dude that got the ticket did not care for it at all.

The good news is, many forums are back up and they actually are coming online more and more by the hour. The .us domains however, are all still down. The new servers are up and running, so I think it's a matter of time before we are back.

"I have no intention of twisting words."

The sentence that was left out:

"We have no intention of providing additional information."

The slow workday syndrome is happening here, too. I can only ping Mary Lee so many times... (at virtually the midpoint between Bermuda and the Bahamas she seems to be heading back into zone 4, way too late).

I need to dig up a puppy cam or a Komodo dragon cam. Or a Komodo-dragon-eating-a-puppy cam.

--------------------

Most of ForumUp domains are back online.

Only the following domains are not online yet, because the webmaster is still working on them:

forumup.be
forumup.us
forumup.dk
forumup.com.au
forumup.vn

They should be back online in about 24 hours.

24 more hours. This is like a bad movie. They have fixed everyone in the world except for:

Belgium
United States
Australia
Vietnam
and whoever .dk is

It's a conpiracy. I'm starting to think Jake actually did have something to do with this mess....

Nor am I bro...I just read they have "re-upped" domains falling like dominoes on the new server becasue of the way the dude tried to integrate them(?) I'm not sure what the fuck it means but now they are describing the problems they are having with the new servers as "teething problems".

My son had teething problems for six months. This description, needless to say, was not exactly comforting.

about an hour ago, the webmaster told me he was working to fix the following domains:

forumup.be
forumup.us
forumup.dk
forumup.com.au
forumup.vn

After that, he will work on the other domains which are offline.

He's sorry about these inconveniences and is working hard to fix everything

Well, at least the .us domains are there.

PST 10pm and counting in these United States, but maybe the webbastard is on Easter Island so it's not yet 5pm. In any case, he's no doubt working ceaselessly on our behalf.

Now even the support site of forumup is down. The only cause for hope is the fact that TA is no longer completely down; instead, it's returning gobbledygook error messages.
